After reading Hornby’s first two novels one about football and one about music I thought that I would definitely relate to whatever his third novel was about.  How wrong could I be.  I have never been suicidal so reading about 4 people who are just about to commit suicide was not what I was expecting.

Being Nick Hornby though the book is entertaining throughout, with 4 different peoples insights into their reason why they want to end it.   It was different reading about peoples habits and emotions and their reasoning into why committing suicide would be better than to carry on living.

Hornby manages to find comedy in the four peoples predicaments, with A failed TV show host, a single mother, a snotty teenager and a failed musician all giving each other support and trying to talk the others out of jumping off the multi storey car park roof, whilst all wishing to commit suicide themselves.  Overall a great read about a subject which rarely gets talked about.
