Set in the heady heights of Birkenhead and Prenton Park, Awaydays is a fun filled, entertaining account of a football hooligan’s journey from football stadium to stadium.  Revolving around the two main characters Paul a sombre young lad trying to fit in and the enigmatic and flamboyant Elvis, who get into scrapes and scraps around the country following their beloved Tranmere Rovers football club.

There is a seductive tone to the book which is as much about music as it is football hooliganism.  Anybody who has followed a football team will understand the love and passion that the two characters go through on this tremulous journey.  An entertaining and thoroughly enjoying book which has since been made into a feature film, although like most films the book is a lot better than the film.
