After his first book His Lordship’s Arsenal was published in New York to a critical acclaim in 1985, Moore became a full-time writer and has so far written 22 novels, a non-fiction and one collection of inter-locked short stories.  Moore has attained somewhat of a cult status among his readers in Asia and Europe and has an increasingly strong following in North America. Moore is probably best known by his cult classics, Land of Smiles Trilogy, his behind-the-smiles study of his adopted country, Thailand, and his highly popular Vincent Calvino Private Eye series.

'The Cultural Detective'

'The Vincent Calvino Private Eye series'

Christopher's 'Vincent Calvino Private Eye series' is based in Bangkok with the main character Vincent Calvino a fictional Bangkok-based private eye.  Vincent Calvino first appeared in 1992 in Spirit House, the first novel in the series. His latest appearance is in 9 Gold Bullets, the 12th novel in the series published in 2011. The Vincent Calvino series has been optioned for a Hollywood film scheduled to shoot in 2011. The film will be released with the title from the first Calvino novel: Spirit House.  Moore’s protagonist, Vincent Calvino, half Jewish and half Italian, is an ex-lawyer from New York, who, under ambiguous circumstances, gave up law practice and became a private eye in Bangkok.

The Bangkok police already have a confession by a nineteen-year-old drug addict who has admitted to the murder of a British computer wizard, Ben Hoadly. From the bruises on his face shown at the press conference, it is clear that the young suspect had some help from the police in the making of his confession. The case is wrapped up. Only there are some loose ends that the police and just about everyone else is happy to over look.

The search for the killer of Ben Hoadley plunges Calvino into the dark side of Bangkok, where professional hit men have orders to stop him. From the world of thinner addicts, dope dealers, fortunetellers, and high-class call girls, Calvino peels away the mystery surrounding the death of the English ex-public schoolboy who had a lot of dubious friends.
